<p>I&#8217;ve been on the medifast diet for a long time and many of my coworkers know about my experience.  At lunch the other day, one of my coworkers asked &#8220;How does Medifast compare with Atkins?&#8221; Another friend sitting at our table blurted out &#8220;What do you mean? They are totally different. One is a low carb diet, silly.  The other is a meal replacement.  These are two totally different things.&#8221;  There were both right, in a sense, and I said so.  But, there are some real similarities (and also some striking differences) between them.  I will discuss how the two are similar and different in this article so that you can determine which may be better than you.</p>
<p><strong>High Protein / Low Carbs:</strong> Believe it or not, medifast is really a low carb diet.  All of the foods are pretty low in calories and carbs but very high in protein and fiber.  So, with both diets, you&#8217;ll be consuming a very high protein to carbohydrate ratio.  The difference between the two is in the foods that you are eating. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s pretty well known that among the Atkins offerings are bacon, eggs, pork rinds, sausage, etc.  Of course, you aren&#8217;t always eating these types of foods (you can eat some veggies.) It would be unhealthy to do so, but some people on this diet do have to carefully watch their fat and cholesterol intake.</p>
<p>With Medifast, you are also eating foods with very little carbs, but this fact has, in a sense, been disguised.  For example, shakes, puddings, chili, hot chocolate, oatmeal, cappuccino, fruit drinks and bars are generally not foods that you would associate with a high protein diet, but all of these foods are not only on the &#8220;safe&#8221; list, they are provided for you. In my experience, I do not all mind being tricked into forgetting that I&#8217;m on a low carbohydrate diet. I eventually failed on Atkins because the whole meat experience started to become too much for me.  In the end, I would&#8217;ve ran ten miles for something sweet. After a while, it became all I could think about.</p>

<p><strong>How They Work Via Ketosis:</strong> Both of these diets work to burn your body&#8217;s fat in the same way.  When your body has enough carbohydrates available, your body will burn these off for energy.  However, when you deprive your body of these carbs, your body has no chance but to burn it&#8217;s own fat instead.  Most people find that this encourages very quick and dramatic results.</p>

I&#8217;ve got one rock star boot camp member who hardly saw any weight loss for a good six months. She got incredibly strong and super-fit. She got rid of all her knee pain and just felt fantastic. Then over the course of about a month she dropped MULTIPLE dress sizes and now looks absolutely amazing!!</p>
<p>So, how the hell do you measure success then?</p>
<p>For this, I&#8217;m going to defer to one of the success masters &#8211; Earl Nightingale.</p>
<p>After several years of intensive research Earl Nightingale developed the following definition of success:</p>
<p>&#8220;Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.&#8221;</p>
<p>It truly is a marvelous definition of success and it can be applied in every area of your life.</p>
<p>As for weight loss &amp; fitness, let me ask you this:</p>
<p>Are you doing something each day to get just a little bit healthier and more fit?<br />Are you working CONSISTENTLY to lose weight and get stronger?<br />Are you giving your best effort with your exercise and nutrition plan?</p>
<p>OR</p>
<p>Are you just going through the motions each day hoping to get healthier and more fit?<br />Are you missing workouts and meals for than 10% of the time?<br />Are you giving a half-assed effort with your exercise and nutrition plan?</p>
<p>BE HONEST WHEN YOU ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS.<br />NOBODY IS GRADING YOU. ;-D</p>
<p>So, if you answered yes to those first three questions then you&#8217;re successful and the results you seek will come. It really is that simple. You just have to stick with it and keep those answers as a solid YES.</p>
<p>Let me use myself as a final example to further illustrate my point.</p>
<p>My genetics are not the greatest. I very easily get fat if I&#8217;m not consistent with my exercise and nutrition plan. That&#8217;s just the way it is. That being said, I can maintain a pretty healthy and fit body if I exercise 4 &#8211; 5 times per week and eat healthy most of the time. However, if I want to get in really great shape then I MUST EXERCISE CONSISTENTLY 6 &#8211; 7 DAYS PER WEEK AND EAT HEALTHY ALL OF THE TIME. That&#8217;s just the way it is for me. I don&#8217;t bother complaining. I just make a choice.</p>
<p>Recently, I decided that I wanted to take things to the next level so I&#8217;ve committed myself to a 7 day per week exercise routine, and a super-tight nutrition plan. In the past 9 weeks I&#8217;ve lost 11 pounds of fat. And, I feel fantastic!!</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not telling you that to show off. I just want to make a point. If you were to take a look at my calendar you&#8217;d notice that everyday but one (5/7) is highlighted. That&#8217;s the only day I didn&#8217;t workout the entire month!! I missed it because I woke up late the day I was flying home from a trip, and I just slacked when I got home. My nutrition was pretty stellar with the exception of a couple planned &#8220;treat meals.&#8221;</p>
<p>Again, not showing off; just making a point. If I want great results then I have to follow a great programming. I was not blessed with do nothing &#8211; look great results. Thanks mom &amp; dad. ;-b</p>
<p>So, I ask you, are you progressively realizing a worthy ideal? Are you taking daily steps to achieve your goal?</p>
<p>Remember, wishing for a thing will never bring the thing.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>You Are Fat &#8211; Who&#8217;s To Blame?</strong></p>
<p>Monday, March 20, 2008 &#8211; Another day in my diary. Waking up, I got ready to take my seven year old daughter to school. Sweat pants and loose jumper, I called her to hurry up. She came to my bedroom and uttered the words which to this day, still resound in the very depths of my brain &#8220;Mummy, I&#8217;m going with Sarah&#8217;s mum. You embarrass me. The other kids laugh at you because you are so fat and they call me Piggy&#8217;s Piglet&#8221;. I stood at the door, aghast and suddenly I felt so self-conscious of my size. I let her go and returned to my room.</p>
<p>Amidst the tears and self-pity, anger came upon me and I screamed at God, the supermarkets and  fast food  for making me fat.&#8221;It&#8217;s all your fault I&#8217;m like this. You won&#8217;t let me get thin. Now my daughter is ashamed of me. Someone, please help me!&#8221; It suddenly struck me that no one could help me if I didn&#8217;t want to be helped. All of this was my fault, my fat body and my daughter&#8217;s embarrassment. It was all of my own making. I was the one who had to make the change&#8230;it was up to me to make the CHOICE.</p>
<p>I weighed myself that morning &#8211; 240 lbs. I wanted to lose weight fast, get rid of all of that fat as quickly as possible. I went down to the pharmacy and bought Apidexin, a fat burner. Took the pills for about two weeks as instructed and I lost a bit of weight but boy, was I getting some digestive problems. So, I stopped that. I was still a fatty!</p>
<p>So, my dieting crusade began, Atkins, South Beach, Jenny Craig and Weightwatchers. From the beginning of April to the end of October, I tried them all. Nothing seemed to work or if it did work a bit, it wasn&#8217;t a permanent loss of fat. About this time, I found out that my husband was cheating on me with the slim and gorgeous girl in his office. I was devastated and blamed myself. If I had not been fat, he would have still desired me and not looked elsewhere. Depression was setting in and I started to eat more.</p>
<p>          ]]&gt;</p>
<p>November15,2008 &#8211; the day that changed my life, though I didn&#8217;t know it at the time! I had a call from my cousin Sarah Ann who lived in New Mexico. She was in town and wanted to meet up. Since, my daughter&#8217;s comments all those months ago, I don&#8217;t go out too often and even when I do, I imagine that everyone is laughing at me. Anyway, at 240 lbs, I as slim compared to Sarah. The last time we met  at Christmas 2007, she confided in me that she was over 260 lbs but just loved her chocolate.</p>
<p>I was at the restaurant first, order my mineral water and looked out for my buddy-in-fat to turn up. Turn up she did, but in the form of a slim, sexy looking woman in a tweed jacket and matching skirt. I could see all the men eyeing her up and I just could not believe  what I was seeing.</p>
<p>After the pleasantries, I asked her point blank, &#8221; How did you lose all of that weight? Liposuction, surgical fat removal? Eleven months ago, you weighed 260 ibs and now &#8230;Please, tell me.&#8221; I was literally begging her.</p>
<p>&#8220;268 lbs actually and no, no surgery or pills. Phil (that&#8217;s her husband) told me to lose weight or he was leaving me.At 32, I was so fat, we couldn&#8217;t have kids and Phil always wanted kids. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I tried pills and various diets until finally, in June, I met a friend who used to be fat and wasn&#8217;t anymore showed me a dieting system which took all the fat off her. I could see that it worked. She showed me the system and here I am, 125 lbs of pure woman.&#8221; She showed me her before and after pictures. The before pictures were pretty gross. I asked for the pictures as a reminder to me of what could be achieved. I have included her pictures on my testimonial site, details of which are below.</p>
<p>I was astounded. I asked her ( forced her, if truth be known) for the details and that very night, I got the system. I was shaking with excitement. I had seen the proof with my own eyes. Could it do the same for me? I started the very next day.</p>
<p>Within days, I could feel a change in my body, I wasn&#8217;t hungry anymore during the day and within 20 days, I had lost 15 lbs. And because, I could see ( at this point, it was more feel than see)  that I was getting slimmer, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. I kept at it and when I weighed myself on February 27,2009, I came in at 129 lbs. that is where I have maintained my weight ever since. On yes, my daughter loves me taking her to school now.</p>
<p>Its amazing what looking slim and sexy can do for you. I feel vibrant, full of life and so confident in myself. Even wore a bikini to the pool and I must say, a lot of the men were looking at me ( when their wives weren&#8217;t looking, of course!).</p>
<p>In appreciation of Sarah&#8217;s help, I created a testimonial website which amongst other things describes what this system is. It also includes before and after photos of me, Sarah Ann, my sister, Joanne ( obesity must run in the family ) and family and friends.</p>

<p>Most women often find themselves asking &#8220;what is the average weight for women?&#8221; This question cannot be answered based primarily on the reading on a weighing machine but rather is determined by a combination of many factors. The average weight for women varies based on their height, age among other factors.</p>
<p> You can never fix a figure and assume it to be the average weight for women that are supposed to be ideal for all and to be used as a measure of how healthy they are. Therefore a figure called the body mass index or ‘BMI&#8217; was created to aid in the fair estimation of weight while incorporating other factors such as height and age.</p>
<p> Women who are in various professions have different ideas of what their ideal weight should be. However no matter what your personal view is watching your weight is recommended by doctors worldwide. You may feel very comfortable with your weight but it may be detrimental to your health. The generally accepted figures for body weight should be a guideline for you to judge how healthy you weight is.      </p>

<p> Women are always self-conscious and their weight weighs in on their body image and confidence levels very seriously. Since their teenage years the media have painted slim thin models to be the figure that everyone in the society expects a woman to have but this has a negative effect on them psychologically with even the slimmest of girls thinking that they look fat. There is a recommended average weight for women at all ages which varies with age and height.</p>
<p><strong>What the Psychologists Say about the Average Weight for Women</strong></p>
<p> Psychologists do not advocate for you to judge yourself according to this average weight for women since it is not necessarily a true reflection of how healthy or unhealthy you are. Only a doctor can do this with specialized examination of all your bodily systems. So don&#8217;t be too harsh on yourself comparing your figures to them. However this does not mean that you should stop living a healthy lifestyle. Watch what you eat and drink and always go by the recommended foods to ensure that you keep life style diseases at bay.</p>
<p> Unhealthy fat that causes obesity tends to accumulate in the abdominal regions and so you should always check your waist&#8217;s diameter as this is a sure sign of unhealthy lifestyle even better than the average body weight for women figures. Also make sure that the area around your neck is clear of any fats.</p>
<p> Women today are known to result to all manner of extreme measures to deal with excess fats. Cosmetic surgery procedures such as abdominalplasty, liposuction, and tummy tucks are accessible relatively cheaply and are used to get rid of excess fats accumulated in the abdominal region. As easy as they seem they are prone to all the risks associated with surgery. Avoid having to result to these by leading a healthy lifestyle.</p>
